About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
The Standards and Training Manager will play a critical leadership role in MAG’s programme operations by ensuring the consistent application of high operational standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will lead the standards and training team and oversee the implementation of quality management systems across all field programs to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with international best practices.
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, a central focus of this role is leading the design, delivery, and oversight of technical training and the implementation of robust standards across all field operations. From operational management and equipment to technical competencies, the Standards and Training Manager is responsible to ensure everything aligns with MAG Country Programme’s Standard Operating Procedures and MAG’s Global Technical Standards. The Standards and Training Manager will also drive the development and implementation of a comprehensive Quality Management System — ensuring safety, sharpening operational performance, and maximizing efficiency across our technical operations.
About you:
You must be EOD 3 qualified and have experience in mine clearance and EOD operations in developing or conflict-affected countries contaminated by explosive remnants of war, as well as managing field clearance operations. You’ll bring proven technical expertise and confidently lead MAG’s Standards and Training Team, driving quality across all field operations.
Your background will include experience in implementing and monitoring quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with international standards and MAG’s internal procedures, reinforcing safe and effective operations. With a sharp focus on operational excellence, you’ll champion high standards and foster a culture of continuous improvement that keeps our teams safe and effective on the ground. You’ll also have experience designing, developing, and delivering formal or informal technical training, ensuring the effective transfer of skills to others. Living and working abroad—ideally in sensitive conflict or post-conflict settings—should be second nature to you, and you’ll have the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, even under pressure.
